| Darlene Gallegos and Lori Esquibel make a great pair. Gallegos, of Trinidad, suffered
a brain aneurysm and stroke three years ago. She wanted to remain in her own home, but needed help with daily tasks like
cooking and cleaning. She gets that, and much more from Esquibel, a professional caregiver for Seniors! Inc.
Seniors is a highly regarded, non-profit organization serving older Coloradans and their families since 1969. It offers
several programs to residents of Huerfano and Las Animas counties. Such programs help older adults live more independent
and productive lives. For example, the Concepts In Home Care program provides services that allow seniors to live in their
own homes instead of nursing homes or assisted living facilities. Those services range from simple companionship, to help
with housework and personal care such as bathing and dressing, to round-the-clock care, all provided by professional caregivers
like Esquibel, who are trained, dedicated, and insured. The Concepts In Home Care Program of Seniors! Inc. is certified
by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. JCAHO evaluates home care providers, sending a team
of national healthcare professionals to investigate every aspect of the services offered by the provider. Organizations
that receive JCAHO accreditation are found to provide the highest level of care. “I love helping people,” said Esquibel,
“especially people with health problems or disabilities. I can do for them what they can’t do for themselves.” Esquibel
spends six hours a day with Gallegos, helping her with housework, laundry, shopping and errands. “I would be lost without
Lori,” says Gallegos. “I wouldn’t trade her for anything.”
