are what brought many newcomers to Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico.
And that’s why most natives don’t stray too far, or if they do, they often
return to retire. While most of us living here would agree that the benefits of
living in a small town far outweigh the negatives, there is one frustration
common to natives and newcomers alike – where to find good, reliable workers.
The Trinidad Business Group (TBG) was formed to help consumers unearth this
dying breed. Most of us have heard someone say: “Why don’t businesses return
my phone call? After all, I’m just trying to keep my money in the community!
And why is it that they cannot call to tell me they’re running late, if they
even come at all?” These kinds of incidents prompted four local business
owners (see photo caption) to create the Trinidad Business Group in early 2005.
The 28 current members are very comfortable referring fellow members because of
the expectations spelled out in the group’s mission statement, which in part
states that each local business admitted into the group must agree to deal with
their customers ethically and professionally. And if they don’t, the group
wants to hear about it so that corrective measures can be taken!

So, if you’re looking for a handyman, seamless gutters, or a
massage therapist, to name a few, then call the Trinidad Business Group at
845-0000. They are also currently accepting applications for businesses not yet
represented, and while only one member is accepted for any given business
category, they also keep a waiting list, should a vacancy occur. The TBG meets
at El Capitan Restaurant every other Thursday from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. In August,
meetings will occur on the 11th and 25th.
